CREATE A PLAYLIST FOR YOUR PSP WITHOUT MediaGO OR A PS3

Some of us may not have a ps3 or even a way to use MediaGo. Perhaps a slow Internet connection doesn’t allow it. Whatever the case, if you’d like to create playlists for your PSP, having a PS3 or access to MediaGo is not a prerequisite. Here I will show you, step by step, a fairly easy method to assemble your music files into a playlist using VLC Media Player

What you will need:

1.)A PSP
2.)USB Connecting Cord for your PSP
3.) VLC Media Player

Steps:

1.) Connect your PSP to your computer via USB.
2.) Go to your PSP folder and create a sub-folder titled PLAYLIST.
3.) Once that’s done, make another sub-folder titled MUSIC and place it inside the PLAYLIST folder.

Now we can get to creating the Playlist.

4.) Run VLC Media Player on your PC
5.) Drag the PSP music files you want for your Playlist and drop them onto VLC Media Player.
6.) Once you’re comfortable with all your music selections, go to the top left of VLC where it says Media. Cycle through the drop-down menu until you get to Save Playlist To File and click on it.
7.) Now give your Playlist a name, set Save As Type to m3u8, and then choose the directory you want to save it to on your PC.

We’re not done yet.

8.) Go to where you saved your playlist. Right click it and then open it using Notepad.
9.) This next part is pretty easy and should only take you about a minute or so to complete, depending on how many tracks you selected.

To help you better understand what you need to do. This is what the playlist looks like once you’ve opened it using Notepad.

#EXTINF:0,Metal Gear Solid – The Best Is Yet To Come
H:\MUSIC\Metal Gear Solid Music\The Best is Yet To Come (MP3).mp3

10.) What you now need to do is delete H: from every track. H: is the drive letter and it may or may not be the same letter for you. There are different drive letters so watch out for that.

So instead of this:

H:\MUSIC\Nirvana\Nirvana – Dumb.mp3
#EXTINF:0,Metal Gear Solid – The Best Is Yet To Come

Your track should look like this:

\MUSIC\Nirvana\Nirvana – Dumb.mp3
#EXTINF:0,Metal Gear Solid – The Best Is Yet To Come

The only part you need to delete is H:

This is what your Playlist should look like afterwards:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,KONAMI – Snake Eater -piano instrumental-
\MUSIC\Metal Gear Solid Music\Snake Eater -piano instrumental-.mp3
#EXTINF:0,Johnny Cash – Hurt
\MUSIC\Country, Blues, Folk etc\Various – Hurt.mp3
#EXTINF:0,Boomkat (Taryn Manning) – Wasting My Time
\MUSIC\Pop\Boomkat- Wasting My Time.mp3
#EXTINF:301,Blue Foundation – Eyes on Fire

#EXTINF:0,Sarah McLachlan – Witness
\MUSIC\Sarah Mclachlan\Sarah McLachlan – 1997 Surfacing6 – Witness.mp3
#EXTINF:245,Sarah McLachlan – Plenty
\MUSIC\Sarah Mclachlan\Sarah McLachlanFumbling Towards Ecstasy3 Plenty.mp3
#EXTINF:259,Bob Marley – Buffalo Soldier
\MUSIC\Bob Marley\Bob Marley – Track 3.mp3
#EXTINF:0,Michael Jackson – Ben
\MUSIC\Pop1_-_Michael__Jackson_-_Ben.mp3
#EXTINF:276,Savage Garden – Truly Madly Deeply
\MUSIC\Pop\Various – Truly Madly Deeply.mp3
#EXTINF:237,Eva Cassidy – I Know You By Heart
\MUSIC\Country, Blues, Folk etc1 – I Know You By Heart – Eva Cassidy.mp3

11.) Once you’ve done that for every single track, save the file.

12.) Once you’ve saved it, right click the file again, select Rename and add an 8 after m3u. If you don’t do this, the PSP will not recognize it as a Playlist.

13.) Now just stick the Playlist m3u8 file into this directory of your PSP: H:\PSP\PLAYLIST\MUSIC

Warning: Those file paths aren’t permanent. Let’s say if you at some point add a song to your PSP music folder, it could very well give one of the tracks you selected for your playlist a different file path, and it will no longer play in the list.

Now you’re done.
